{"id":18351,"date":"2015-01-10T17:22:59","date_gmt":"2015-01-11T01:22:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/?post_type=ac_on_deck&#038;p=18351"},"modified":"2023-08-09T14:58:15","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T21:58:15","slug":"on-deck-with-jonathan-debruyn","status":"publish","type":"ac_on_deck","link":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/on-deck\/on-deck-with-jonathan-debruyn\/","title":{"rendered":"On Deck with Jonathan DeBruyn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>21-year old violinist Jonathan DeBruyn recently won the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmsomus.org\/concerts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oregon Sinfonietta<\/a>\u2019s concerto competition; listen in and get to know him before he plays the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with that group on January 18.<\/p>\n<p>In this episode of On Deck, Jonathan talks frankly about being diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma a decade ago, and he will play for us a piece called &#8220;Mysticus&#8221; that his dad &#8211;composer Randall DeBruyn&#8211; wrote for him after he completed his cancer treatment.<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of his illness Jonathan asked the Make A Wish foundation for a violin.\u00a0 He played it for many years until winning the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youngviolinistaward.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Franke\/Altman Young Violinist Award<\/a>, which grants a promising young Oregon musician the use of a fine violin and bow for the period of two years.\u00a0 This is the violin you hear Jonathan play in this episode of On Deck.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan is also producing a youth concert on February 8 called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/event\/music-is-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Music is Over<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":29,"featured_media":70326,"template":"","class_list":["post-18351","ac_on_deck","type-ac_on_deck","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"ACF":{"video_fields":false},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ac_on_deck\/18351","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ac_on_deck"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/ac_on_deck"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/29"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/70326"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18351"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
