{"id":84185,"date":"2022-05-21T17:10:46","date_gmt":"2022-05-22T00:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/?post_type=ac_on_deck&#038;p=84185"},"modified":"2022-05-19T13:01:40","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T20:01:40","slug":"on-deck-with-koharu-sakiyama","status":"publish","type":"ac_on_deck","link":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/on-deck\/on-deck-with-koharu-sakiyama\/","title":{"rendered":"On Deck with Koharu Sakiyama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amy Faust gets to know Koharu Sakiyama, a composer whose piece &#8220;Untold Tales,&#8221; a collaboration with local young poet Laila Vickers, just premiered at the <a href=\"http:\/\/playmys.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metropolitan Youth Symphony<\/a>&#8216;s spring concert.<\/p>\n<p>Koharu, who also plays violin with the <a href=\"http:\/\/portlandyouthphil.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portland Youth Philharmonic<\/a>, alto sax with her high school band, as well as the Japanese koto, has won or been recognized by numerous composers&#8217; competitions. Her work has been performed by PYP, her high school band, and other ensembles around the city. This latest piece comes to us through her work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fearnomusic.org\/ycp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fEARnoMUSIC&#8217;s Young Composer&#8217;s Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from her koto playing, Koharu&#8217;s Japanese roots are reflected in a recent composition she created for her grandfather called &#8220;Maturi&#8221; that was inspired by the many festivals she attended with him in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Koharu heads to University of California at Berkley this fall where she plans to study cellular and molecular biology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":29,"featured_media":84227,"template":"","class_list":["post-84185","ac_on_deck","type-ac_on_deck","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"ACF":{"video_fields":false},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ac_on_deck\/84185","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ac_on_deck"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/ac_on_deck"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/29"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/84227"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.allclassical.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=84185"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
